A Boar bristle brush has so many hair benefits. In this article and video, I share all the top hair benefits you should be enjoying with a boar bristle brush! Have you tried a boar bristle brush? You’re missing out on all the boar bristle brush hair benefits. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you all the awesome things a boar bristle brush will bring you right now!

Top 8 Boar Bristle Brush Hair Benefits:
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #1: Shiny hair! This is my favorite benefit because I love shiny hair and who doesn’t want shiny hair? This girl right here wants shiny hair! The shiny hair is thanks to the ability of the boar bristles distributing your natural hair oils from your roots successfully down to the tips of your hair. Your natural hair oil is the shiniest for your hair. This boar bristle brush is also mentioned in my previous post How to Get Shiny Hair. If you want to know how I get my hair shiny, Read “How to Get Shiny Hair”
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #2: Softer hair! The boar bristle brush gently conditions your whole length of hair with your natural hair oils and the boar bristle brush makes sure your hair is evenly saturated. This oil leaves your hair in better condition and makes it softer.
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #3: Less hair breakage and STRONGER Hair! Less Split ends! This is a great benefit for anyone like myself that has damaged hair from bleaching it or hair that’s really dry and hard to grow out. With the protection of your natural hair oils throughout your entire hair strands, you hair will have more elasticity, thus making it STRONG and will have the ability to break much much less! Yay!!!! For more tips how to specifically care and repair bleached hair read my article How to Repair Bleached Damaged Hair Fast!
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #4: Faster growing hair! the gentle root stimulation that the boar bristle brush gives to your scalp helps bring more blood flow to your hair follicles! You’re not only gently pulling on the hair, but massaging the scalp with the boar bristles. It’s so relaxing!
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #5: Waking up your hair follicles oil production. If you have a dry scalp, massaging your hair can help stimulate the sluggish oil glands to start producing oil. Remember, this oil is what leads to all the benefits!
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #6: Cleaner hair! A boar bristle brush helps remove any excess oils by trapping them in the brush and helps catch any fuzz, or dirt like a magnet. (Don’t forget to wash your boar bristle brush!) Read my Article: How to Properly Clean your Boar Bristle Brush
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #7: Less oily roots! Because you’ll be distributing the oils from your roots to your ends, your hair roots will look less oily and weighed down.
Boar Bristle Brush Benefits #8: Add incredible volume or naturally straighten your hair! You can use a boar bristle brush 2 different ways. Root to tip in long strokes to get straight hair like mine or dip your head upside down and back brush your hair starting from your nape (neck) That will give you TONS of volume like a lion’s mane! I swear 😉
I want to mention, you’ll have the best results using a boar bristle brush if you’re using a sulfate free shampoo! This is important because sulfates strip all you hair’s natural oils and would make the boar bristle brush ineffective! You need your natural hair oils for this brush to work best! Use a shampoo that does NOT contain the ingredient: sodium laureth sulfate.
This is the shampoo I use:
L’Oreal Hair Expertise Oleo Therapy Oil Infused Shampoo & Conditioner Set 8.5 fl oz
How to use a Boar Bristle Brush:
Use a boar bristle brush the same way you would use a regular brush but make sure you’re making good contact with your hair’s roots and pull the brush all the way down to your ends. This is the best way to evenly disperse the natural hair oils. Once your brush is saturated with oils, you can however concentrate on brushing the ends of your hair to help protect them! Your hair ends are the most vulnerable and most likely to be very dry! Never use on wet hair! A boar bristle brush works best on straight or wavy hair. If you use it on a tight curly hair type, it may cause more frizz because it’s undoing the curl!
How to Break in a NEW Boar Bristle Brush:
Concentrate on brushing your scalp for at least 20 hair strokes to get the hair oils into the new brush and let it soak up a decent amount of oil.
How to use a Boar Bristle Brush on Dry Brittle Hair:
If your hair is completely dry and damaged, I suggest you pretreat your hair to make it strong enough to use a boar bristle brush. Once you get you hair in good shape, a boar bristle brush can be used to keep it in good condition. Read my article: Strengthen Hair at Home – 3 BEST REMEDIES DIY

Hi Jen, love your blog about boar bristle brush! I have recently purchased a 100% boar bristle brush from Acca Kappa and loving it… my scalp is dry and so is my hair, I have fine wavy to curly hair and this brush helps with my hair look its best 🙂 not to mention the calming effect I get when I am brushing it 😀
That’s good to hear! If you put some infusium 23 in your hair and brush it also helps with frizz! It is soothing, I agree. Thanks for stopping by Savi.

I love this article/blog! I recently went to all natural hair care (like i make my own at home) and starting out it striped my hair of all the bad icky stuff my old shampoo left on my hair* leaving it really dry and brittle. Almost as if i had bleached it! And i was afraid to use my favorite bristle brush because i thought it might damage it even more. I have been using a bristle brush for YEARS without even knowing all these benefits! Lol i love it. Thanx! 🙂
*watch out and make sure to check labels, even ‘natural’ products contain bad stuff for your hair. Most of which coat the outer layer causing build up and making it so your hair doesn’t get the proper nutrients it needs to heal!
Thanks! Yes, boar bristle brushes have amazing hair benefits.
